Our History

W.L. “Bucky” Etherton D.M.D. founded this dental practice in 1973. After graduating from the University of Alabama, Bucky attended the University of Alabama School of Dentistry. While Bucky was in dental school, his wife Teresa became pregnant with their son, Jason. Jason was born in July 1971 in between Bucky’s Junior and Senior year of dental school. Upon graduation he moved to Valley, Alabama. Bucky was a friend of Dr. Bill Shirley who was the only dentist in Chambers County. Dr. Shirley allowed Bucky to begin seeing patients after his regular work hours. Bucky bought land in what was to become the Medical Park of Valley, Alabama.

When the office construction was completed, Bucky began seeing patients in the # 6 Medical Park location where we are located today. Bucky’s waiting room was unique at the time, as it was the first medical office in our area that was not segregated.Bucky and Teresa had a daughter, Carla, in 1976. Jason grew up watching his dad perform dentistry and sometimes helping his dad with emergencies. When Jason was in the first grade he began to tell people he was going to be a dentist when he grew up. Jason graduated from Valley High School in 1989. During Jason’s high school years many friends began to call him Bucky. Jason went on to receive a Bachelor of Science Degree in Zoology from Auburn University then graduated from the University of Alabama School of Dentistry in 1997.

Jason and his wife, Julie moved back to our area and Jason joined his dad’s dental practice. For several years they worked together until Bucky retired in 2000 and Jason bought the practice from his parents. Throughout the 70’s 80’s and 90’s, many new dentists began their dental careers in our office. Each of them went on to open their own practices, some in our area and others in other Alabama towns. One thing has been constant over the years, the desire to take care of our patients and serve the community in which we live.
